Arkhon Infaustus - Perdition Insanabilis

After hearing Filth Catalyst I immediately tracked this down because I had heard that it was better. It is. I was unsure about the mixture of vocals on Filth Catalyst (a mix of death growls and more black metal vocals), the way they were alternated got kind of boring and predictable. This is not so true on this album. The lyrics are pretty much undiscernable in all songs, but I'm sure it's a lot of blasphemy mostly. The guitar tone is suitably filthy and the drums are sounding a lot better on this album also. The song structures are more interesting and show some actual songwriting skill. I'm totally in love with the guitar tone though.

"Genesis of Loss" sets the mood for things to come with a lot of screaming and wailing before the first full-length song, "M33 Constellation." "Saturn Motion Theology" slows things down a bit and starts off with a few minutes of guitars before the vocals and drums kick in. "Six Seals Salvation" has more religious-themed samples at the beginning and the tempo changes keep it interesting to listen to.

As stated, the only other Arkhon Infaustus that I owned was Filth Catalyst, and this made me go find their other albums. The fast pace, extremely crushing guitar sound, and interesting samples make this album a lot of fun to listen to. By the end of it the mixture of vocals and the layering of everything had really grown on me. They have their own sound and it makes for a good listening experience. Nothing on this strikes me as filler material, the quality is pretty consistant. I wouldn't count it among my favorite CDs ever (though probably one of my favorites to come out in the past few years), yet this feels like a quality album and I will probably listen to it a lot in the future.
